About the program

TASC is a ten-day summer program run by current MIT students and staff. It gives ambitious high school students who are members of federally recognized tribes ten days of serious science and a community to share it with.

TASC ran in 2025 and again in 2026, most recently bringing 25 students from 5 states and more than 10 tribal nations to Tulsa. Planning for TASC ’27 is underway.

We are looking for students who show curiosity and ambition, whether that comes from classes, arts, sports, community work, or hands-on projects.

TASC is a program of the MIT Priscilla King Gray Center for Social Impact, hosted at the University of Tulsa. See our partners

In students’ words

“I learned to re-evaluate how I think, to identify my assumptions. In the bio track, we would engage in deep and long debate about ethics, reasoning, and technology.”

“The teachers were very passionate. They are close in age, so it seemed like intentional teaching. That’s why it was easier to understand.”
TASC student
“I had no prior experience in STEM, not advanced at least. I feel like I get it now. That’s all part of the self-learning attitude of TASC. Learning how to learn.”

Five tracks

Depth over breadth. Each track is taught by MIT students and staff, with hands-on sessions and real discussion.

AI Engineering

How machine learning actually works, from the ground up. Neural networks, backpropagation, computer vision, and building real systems.

DNA Technology

The genetic history and future of nature. Understanding CRISPR, DNA sequencing, and molecular biology.

Fundamentals of Reality

As Mark Twain said, “Truth is stranger than the strangest fiction.” Quantum mechanics, relativity, particles, and the cosmos.

Chemistry and Energy

Nuclear fusion, organic chemistry, the atomic age, and the future of energy.

From Sand to Superintelligence

How computers work, built all the way up from silicon wafers to transistors to processors and operating systems.

Beyond the tracks

Workshops and sessions outside the core tracks help students turn curiosity into the ability to act on it.
